How-To Tint RAPTOR 2K

Tinting RAPTOR 2K Protective Coating is a straightforward process, whether you’re matching an OEM colour, going custom, or touching up existing coating. Achieving a professional-quality result comes down to accurate measuring, proper mixing, and consistency.

Before getting started, ensure you have read the Technical Data Sheet (TDS) for your specific RAPTOR 2K product, regarding the recommended tinting ratios. Also be sure read our How-To Guides for repairing and preparing a surface and equipping the appropriate PPE.

What Tint Do you need for RAPTOR 2k?

RAPTOR Tintable is designed to be customised to your desired colour and finish, compatible with 2K colour or automotive solvent-based base coats (where possible, leave out binders for best pigment desnsity). It is important that you use the correct tints and the correct processes as outlined in the RAPTOR Tintable Technical Data Sheet (TDS) to ensure consistent colour and that your RAPTOR 2K performs as expected.

Solvent-Based 2K Colour: Compatible with RAPTOR Tintable, an automotive solvent-based 2K colour can be used. However prior to mixing with RAPTOR it will need to be activated. When you purchase your colour, ensure you have the corresponding hardener and mix it into the colour, you can then begin the process of mixing it into your RAPTOR.

Solvent-Based Toners: An automotive solvent-based toner/basecoat can be used to add colour to RAPTOR Tintable, it is essentially a highly concentrated pigment so use sparingly (maximum 10% tint by volume). RAPTOR cannot be used with waterborne, polyester, or enamel paints and tints.

How Much Tint for RAPTOR 2k?

For good opacity and consistent colour, at least 5% tint is required for RAPTOR Tintable. However, we typically recommend up to 10% tint by volume of RAPTOR before adding hardener.

We suggest you always get more tint than necessary for your project, this will ensure you have plenty of tint in the exact colour should you need more RAPTOR for your project or need to touch up anything in the future

  • For a 1 Bottle Kit of RAPTOR 2K you will need 71ml of tint for 10%
  • For a 4 Bottle Kit of RAPTOR2K you will need 284ml of tint for 10%
  • For a 5L Tin of RAPTOR 2K you will need 500ml of tint for 10%

How To Add Tint into RAPTOR 2K

Mixing RAPTOR 2K Tintable is a fairly straightfoward process, at the suggest ratio of 10% tint, you will need to mix your RAPTOR and tint together in a separate measuring cup, as a RAPTOR 1L bottle will be slightly too small. The below process will ensure your paint is measured and mixed perfectly every time.

  • Pour RAPTOR into a mixing cup.
  • Measure your hardener using the supplied measuring cup (237ml) and pour it into the empty RAPTOR bottle and shake
  • Add your desired tint to your RAPTOR at a maximum of 10% by volume.  (keep in mind when using a 2K solid colour, you must activate it with its own hardener first before adding it to your RAPTOR)
  • Mix your RAPTOR and tint together for 2 minutes ensuring the colour is consistent, even, and there are no swirls
  • Pour your mixed RAPTOR back into the bottle that contains your hardener, replace the lid and shake for 2 more minutes
  • Your RAPTOR is now mixed and ready to apply
