Hulking Out
Shannon’s 1989 GQ Patrol is a hand-built, bush-ready beast that stands out in both looks and performance. Originally specced for the mines in WA, this TD42 GQ has seen a complete transformation, now fitted with an aftermarket turbo, cross country intercooler, 3” suspension lift, 2” body lift, and 35” tyres on factory TI alloy rims.
“I’ve built most of it myself or with a mate over a few beers,” Shannon says. From bar work to gullwing windows and full interior cabinetry, nearly every feature is custom made.
To finish off the build, Shannon chose RAPTOR Protective Coating for its tough, scratch resistant finish that handles Australian conditions with ease. RAPTOR black was applied across the bar work, grille and handles, while the body was coated in a custom green using RAPTOR Tintable.
“The RAPTOR was easy to apply once we got used to the spray gun,” he explains. “It dried to the touch in a few hours and was ready to reassemble within a day.”
This GQ is more than a showpiece. It is fully equipped for touring, recovery, and off-road adventures with ARB lockers, a custom rear bar, rear drawers, Stedi lights, a 50 litre water tank, and even Falcon XT seats for added comfort.
Shannon’s Patrol proves that with the right gear and some DIY determination, you can build a vehicle that’s ready for anything.
